Default Logitech Mouse Buttons

Hi

I have one of those Mediaplay mice and was wondering how to setup bsplayer to work with it?
It has extra buttons that do "forward", "backward" etc which under the setpoint software configuration has tasks listed such as next,play, pause etc for each button. As an alternative you can set specific keystrokes which is a workaround I have been using. The problem is that the next,back etc. tasks are used by programs such as Itunes and WMP so if I use specific keystrokes that work with BSplayer the buttons won't funtion under Itunes/WMP.

I have tried just hovering the mouse over the keyboard shortcut button in the options of BSplayer but it does not recognize the button I am pressing on the mouse.

I don't really have an answer, but maybe your problem is related to the one over here :
http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=6661

Maybe BSplayer recognises your mouse buttons when you exit the setpoint software first.

Just an idea.

Yes it is related but I do not see an option in girder to receive mouse commands.

If I close setpoint the extra mouse buttons do not work.. :s

I did a little test : my extra buttons are not recognised by BSplayer either.
So, I looked around in Girder. There is a standard mouse plugin.That didn't work either.

Fortunately there is Mouse 3.0 plugin (written by someone called John Hind) that does notice my extra buttons.
It looks a bit complicated to setup, but I don't have the time right now to look into it further.

I suggest you give it a try and see how it works for you.

Good luck,
Rafke P.

Hmm that was a good idea.

I tried the plugin but all it does is disable all the buttons on my mouse when I activate it.....perhaps it does not recognize USB wireless mice?

In that case I'm out of ideas :?

If it disables your mouse buttons I would think that it recognises your mouse. Like I said : I don't have any experience with that plugin, but if I understand correctly, you can change which mouse buttons need to blocked in the preferences of the plugin. Maybe that helps.

Excuse me for asking (I don't know how good you know Girder), but have you tried "learn event" in Girder?

Rafke

Sorry for my late reply but I have been busy.
And now I don't have Girder on this machine so I'm doing this by what I remember.

Start Girder. Goto preferences and select the mouse plugin.
Make sure it says "plugin loaded in memory"
Then in the file menu select "enable input devices"
Add a new command. (it will be labeled new, but you can rename it as you want).
Then click on "learn event".
Now press one of your special buttons.
If Girder recognised your special button, it will add an EvenString to your new command. Like in the picture below :

(the example is from an IR remote, but the important thing is that you see the EventString)

Can you try this?
If it works we will take it one step further.

As soon as I enable the mouse plugin I can still move my mouse but all the buttons on it stop working, learn event is also greyed out under the mouse tab...

You don't need to be in the Mouse tab to make girder "learn events" from your mouse.
For example to assign Play event for BSplayer, you have to go in Keyboard tab, in "Sentence" put x (if "x" is your shortcut for Play in BSplayer), then press the Target button (still in keyboard tab) and at bottom-right of the target window select:
Name = BSplayer
ClassName = BSPlayer
Executable = BSPLAYER.EXE
then press OK.
In keyboard tab press Apply.
At last press the LearnEvent button and try pressing a mouse special button.
If the plugin recognises your mouse you should see in the red-dotted field the name of the button pressed.
If it doesn't work maybe you can change the plugin settings, for more information read the Readme.txt file that comes with the plugin.

I never used this plugin before and at the moment I don't have many time to spend in learning its functions, but if you can't assign events I can try to make some tests...
Probably RafkeP will be of more help.

Maybe changing plugin settings will be handy to restore mouse buttons functionality.

Another thing:
You have to select the New command created as Rafke described you before doing all the actions described in my previous post.

I've tried this but it does not work, when I activate the mouse plugin none of the mouse buttons respond in any app or girder. I can't manually type in the keys since I do not know the keyboard combination the mouse buttons are. Why is it that when I press the play/pause button on my mouse in bsplayer, it does not recognize it when I hover it over the shortcut box in preferences?

Probably because it sends something else than a mouseclick or keyboard event.
Without the same type of mouse I can't help you any further.
(I ran out of ideas)

I do hope you find something though.
Good luck,
Rafke
