Default playing partially downloaded avi

Can BSPlayer play a partially downloaded AVI? I know it's meant to be able to play and auto continue partial downloads, but whenever I try I get a "Can't open file" error. I've ticked the "Open locked files" option in preferences, but it still doesn't work.

I'm thinking maybe it won't do it for AVI files, which would have to be reindexed on the fly. But then why make a point of it at all, even WMP is capable of streaming an MPG.

Some older versions worked OK with partial files. Something is wrong, but let's hope it will be fixed soon.

It seems the latest VLC media player from videolan.org can do this.
