DON'T USE CODEC PACKS (read BSPeter's "READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING" sticky post) Uninstall that codec pack and install DivX3 instead. Probably that codec pack came with Haali media splitter that hasa problems with BSplayer playback

Have you read BSPeter's "READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING" post? Probably items (3) and (4) will help you to figure out where the problem lays. For mkv subtitles, probably you are using an Haali media splitter, use the one from Gabest instead.

You can use FFDSHOW (a part of the CCCP pack) to decode video. The problem with the new codec pack was probably the fact that it includes Haali Media Splitter, which doesn't work well. Solution: trash the CCCP and install standalone FFDSHOW (http://free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm). There is no need to install any DivX3 or 4, or 5 or 6 - whatever. FFDSHOW can decode all MPEG-4 video streams properly. You just have to have a proper media splitter for each container type. For Matroska files that would be Gabest's Matroska Splitter (http://free-codecs.com/download/Matroska_Splitter.htm). Sorry, I have no experience with MP4 files whatsoever. You have to look for a MP4 Splitter and try different ones, from Gabest (http://free-codecs.com/download/MP4_Splitter.htm) or 3ivX. If Gabest's MP4 slitter doesn't seem to work, remove it and try the one by 3ivX. Quote:

Usually, CCCP is recommended by some users for HDTV movies. Ar we in this case ? If so either you install ffdshow (less quality but more compliance) or you use CoreAAC and CoreAVC decoder and Haali media splitter. Try some of the newest versions, they mach better with BSPlayer (it's not Haali media splitter fault)
