Sorry I've misunderstood you when you spoke about 50%.
Now I understand you referred to the time played (and not to pan scan or something similar).
That concerns a different option.
(rightclick =>) Options => Preferences => General => [General]
"Remember last movie position"
Is it selected in your settings?
