a) rename your mediafile: add the extension .mkv to your media file!
example: filename.m4a -> filename.m4a.mkv
b) short tab filename.m4a.mkv and Open with BSPlayer
or long tab filename.m4a.mkv and Open As Video (or Audio) and Open with BSPlayer
This trick works for me! Edit: I do not have .m4a from iTunes, though.
If it also works with your iTunes .m4a, please, let me know.
Note:
BSPLayer Android does not yet support the filename.chf chapters of BSplayer Windows!

Simply adding .m4a extension in Preferences should work also. Feature request confirmed.
