Default SMB Version question

From my testing, it appears that BSPlayer is using SMBv1 to connect to SMB shares. Since Microsoft is going to be disabling SMBv1 by default in future (https://twitter.com/NerdPyle/status/873350989713072128), SMB v2 or v3 support will be needed. Is there any official word on SMB v2/v3 support coming?
