Unknown file format (XVID) I had installed DivX 5.05 and Xvid 1.0.1 and when I tried to open a xvid file (encoded with Xvid 1.0.1) bsplayer gave the "Unknown file format (XVID)" error. I uninstalled the DivX codec, and couldn't see any Divx movie. I checked the support for them in the Xvid decoder and so I could also see DivX movies (this is just to see the Xvid decoder was working fine). Bsplayer said it was using the Xvid decoder. But when i try to open the Xvid 1.0.1 movie it didn't work :( (with only the Xvid codec installed!). Now I've installed the Divx 5.1.1, and unchecked the generic support for MPEG-4. Still doesn't work (although now I see divx movies with the divx decoder). I've also tried installing the ffdshow codec but with no results. Windows Media Player also couldn't open the file. G-spot also gives problems (see below). But if I try to open the file with SpanishDub (a mod from VirtualDub) it works perfectly  What is the difference from VirtualDub an the others? Btw, I couldn't use the VRM9 option because I don't have Directx 9 installed. Is this the problem?. I don't have direct access to internet so I would prefer not to install it  Here is the output of G-spot with the Xvid file (in the video section it says the codec is correctly installed): Error Number: 0x00040242 Error Name: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER Full Error Text: Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsopported format. Thanks for your help and sorry because the post is a little long  |

Which container format is the XVid Video in? What do you know about its origin? Seems like Direct Show is only rendering the file partially. I suppose it's corrupt. If you are able to open it with SpanishDub, then choose the advanced open file option and save file (direct stream copy) again without sound. If you still aren't able to play file... Well, the decoder is working as you've proven.

The original file was encoded by me using MEncoder. It works perfectly under Linux, and it also works in my Kiss (a dvd and divx player). The problem is under Windows. Let's see if I can upload the file. Thanks for you help. Rad. Btw, I'm using last bsplayer version (1.00.809) and this is the (almost) full report from G-Spot with the movie: G-Spot report: Status: This is a valid AVI file. If you need more info about my system just tell me. Btw, I didn't find any free host, so, as the file is quite small, I've attached it here. If you can, please test it to see if it works. Thanks again for your help, Rad. |

I've managed to install DirectX 9.0b in my computer, but still can't see the XviD 1.0.1 file (encoded by me and at least accepted by Linux and Kiss players). Now I can select the "Use VRM-9" option, and, with it selected, when I open a XviD 1.0.1 file (others XviD versions work fine) Bsplayer gives this error: ************************************************** ******** BSPlayer v1.00.809, Unhandled exception at EIP: 004B61D4 If you click 'Close' application will be terminated. Please report this info to the author with description what were you doing. Invalid floating point operation EInvalidOp , 0x00501F87, 0x00502185, 0x004539FB, 0x0044AD46, 0x77D13A68, 0x77D13B37, 0x77D13D91, 0x77D1438C, 0x005039C3, 0x77E614C7 Bytes at EIP: DE F9 DD 1D 6C 30 51 00 9B 83 3E 00 75 05 83 3F 00 74 ************************************************** ******** I'm very interested in fixing this (and the "Unknown file format (XVID)" error) so I can play this kind of files. I remember some facts: Codecs Installed: DivX 5.11 (with generic Mpeg-4 support disabled) and Xvid 1.0.1 (from Koepi site). Bsplayer version: 1.00.809 G-Spot reports: see my lasts posts. VirtualDub opens correctly the file (audio and video). File made with mencoder, but I've made others with VirtualDub and didn't work either. Computer running Windows XP, Directx 9.0b, 1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce2 graphics card. Maybe the problem is the encoded file. It was made using mencoder, and it should be rather standard. I posted a sample of just 1 second in my last post. I know is a bit annoying, but it would help me a lot if someone could download the file and just see if it works in his bsplayer (and, if not, if at least opens in virtualdub, which is my case). Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance, Rad. |

Same here like Staker. But VIrtualDub and VirtualDubMod plays the file fine. Direct stream copy don't help. Saving file with no recompresion give some green\purple artifacts. Reencoding with XviD gives a playable file. I'll test it also on Linux (Koppix and Suse). See what's up.
