Default A\V problem Genius who solves this. details inside.Help!!!

Hello
My problem is as follows: i have reinstalled winxp(Home Edition), i formatted my c partition and installed windows, afterwards i installed all updates(from microsoft) and all codecs(divx xvid even codecs packs).
Since then every movie i play no matter what player, there is a gap between the audio and video. The movie files are just fine they don't have a sync problem. The problem is not with codecs because it doesn't play well mpeg file and DVD movies.
Furthermore, it seems to me that even in windows itself there is a problem, for example in error message i see the box and afterwards hear the beep.
Before the reinstallation there were no problems, i tried reinstalling again(it's the third time) and nothing.
There are no hardware problems since i haven't change anything, and i tried different sound and video card and i still have the problem.
Please help me. any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My specs
intel Motherboard D865PERL
nvidia Geforce4 128 DDR
Memory 256 DDR 400Mhz
Onboard soundcard SoundMax

don't do that! noooooooooo............. T_T too late.
The "even codecs packs" part sounds scary. Codecs packs are known to cause loads of terrible problems. When you install codecs, you install ONLY the necessary, better less, then too many. And no codec packs. So the problem IS probably codecs.
Unistall those codecs packs, and codecs, and install as few as possible.
Refer to that topic:
http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic....=codecs+needed

Of course there is a possibility that it's not codec issue... maybe update your sound card drivers? (get it from manufacturer site)

i installed the K-lite codec pack only after i tried installing the codecs separately(Xvid,Divx AC3filter,Mp3codec), i also tried ffdshow, but all of the above didn't help.
There is the problem also with DVD so i don't think the problem is with codecs.

You have the latest soundcard drives, yes?
If not, get these:
version 5.12.1.3713
date 10/29/2003
ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo...adi_sm4_sf.exe

Having sound issues after clean Win install... that's strange.

What about changing some options related to audio from control panel?
Does video play smoothly?
When you play movie, what's the cpu usage?
Have you checked you computer for viruses?

acutally I have no idea what can be wrong... :(
maybe someone else will contribute...

What jax mentioned above could be the thing. Onboard sound depends alot on cpu usage. Im not fammiliar with soundmax, but if u are expiriencing audio delay systemwide, it's definitly the onboard sound problem. try lowering hw acceleration or quality for sound in control panel. Try disabling it in bios and use pci sound card. I have the crappy ac97 and have 1 second delay in all quake3 engine based games :(. bought the cmi8738 for $10...problem gone..

To V3rt!g(o)
The I865 MB can't have on it a CPU slower than P4@1.5 GHz, so there is not the problem about sound decoding. And by the way, CMI8738 is the same thing as AC97, it uses the CPU for decoding.

To nabla
Sorry to disapoint you but I am affraid that your windows install is the one that causes the problems. Last chance is to uninstall the codec pack, run the patch for quartz.dll sugested by bst and then reinstall of independent codecs, OR FFDshow, not both.

Since you say that the gap happen not only when playing movies, then maybe you should contact your computer manufacturer? or Microsoft? or Intel (sound card)?
Also have you tried posting your question in some technical forums?
