Default "Subtitles" tab in Preferences

In Preferences under the Subtitles tab there's a choice for "Subtitles Directory". What does this mean?

Default

That is to define the default directory (or map) on your HD where you might wish to store subtitles for your movies.
However, ideally your subtitles will be in the same directory (or on the same CD) and have the same name as your movie files; then you need not bother at all about defining a default directory for (separately stored) subtitles.
