Odd video playback

I downloaded a couple of avi files, which are not played correctly. It looks like instead of playing video frames in a sequential order like 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5, the player plays them in a slightly different manner 1 - 3 - 2 - 5 - 4. The picture always jumps back and forward all the time. I tried different versions of BS Player (805 and older), it is all the same. Do I need any special codec for playing this files?
