Default Volume control problems

If I reduce the volume bia the slider and then pause the video, the volume goes to the maximum (although slider does not move to max) once I unpause the video.

This is driving me nuts.

I've been experiencing the same problem for the last year, on both of my computers and it's driving me nuts. Help me.

I didn't include the build number because it's been happened with all of them though the most recent build. I have an Audigy 2 sound card (I have seen the other thread addressing this but my drivers are current).
