Default BSPlayer very slow to open

Hi

I run 2 machines (one at work and one at home) that are as near as identical in terms of hardware: Athlon 3000+, 768Mb Ram, WinXP.

I use BSPlayer 1.02b812 at work and 1.22b817 at home. I use Total Commander 6.50 at work and 6.51 at home for file management. The codec packs on the two machines also differ.

When i start Total Commander and navigate to a directory containing video files (regardless of type) the program uses 100% of the CPU for 10 seconds during which the screen freezes. After that everything returns to normal, but once you double-click on a video file associated with BSPlayer it takes about 5-10 seconds to start the video, with 100% CPU usage, after which system performance again returns to normal and the playback is fine.

Similarly, if I navigate to the BSPlayer install directory the same system freezing occurs upon entering the directory.

I found the same thing happening when using Microsoft's Windows Explorer to enter the BSplayer install directory but not a directory containing video.

I found that if i turn of file association icons in Total Commander that the directory perfomance is perfect but that video playback start is still VERY slow.

I have resorted to using rival players but desperately want to return to using BSPlayer if somebody out there has an idea or solution.

Thanks for reading my sad essay!

Are you using McAfee antivirus?
If so (or another antivirus), try to disable it and open a BSplayer's file (or just open the BSP directory).. Your pc still freezes??
If not, exclude BSplayer.exe from antivirus activity!

I know is a bad thing to not check programs for virus for them to work, but the only other possibility is to unpack bsplayer.exe (but if you read the license, it says "...You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble this software..." :? )

At you the choice...

@BSplayer TEAM
Please, fix this problem as for Norton's users, or try using another EXE-packer... :)

Thanks Tizio!

You were absolutely right, it was my antivirus program, F-Prot in this case. Once I disabled it BSPlayer worked perfectly.

Thanks again!

I think it depends on the version you have.
For version v7.x:
1. Open the antivir main page (double-click on the system tray icon)
2. Clik on "Configure automatic protection settings" in the left panel
3. Click on "Advanced..."
4. Go to the tab "Exclusion"
5. Press the "Add..." button
6. Enter the full path and file name of BSplayer (for example: "C:\Program Files\Webteh\BSplayer\bsplayer.exe") and confirm

If it ask you to include subfolders just say no (or uncheck the related option)

If you have another version, search for the configurations for your security settings, and then for advanced options!

Bye

Hi all's

thanks for this solution

I discovered this topic today
I have had the same problem with my antivirus 'eTrust EZ Antivirus' , last version v7, from Computer Associates : about 10 seconds for opening the program.

I put the installation folder of Bsplayer in the exclusion list and all is perfect!

nota : the problem was not solved if i put only the program name with his path (e.g F:\Bsplayer\Bsplayer.exe) , but no problem by putting the folder name ( e.g F:\BsPlayer

nota2 : very good program indeed
Bye
