Default .srt subtitle file loads but does not display

I have a video which has an associated .srt file. The file loads, and the name of the .srt is displayed above the movie size in the player. I can also pull up the subtitle editing window and see that all the subtitles seem to be recognized correctly and have the correct associated times. Nevertheless, the subtitles are not displayed on the video. The video is a .m2v file. I have the subtitle color set to yellow and font set to Arial 48 - so they are hard to miss. :-) The subtitles come up fine on other videos, but not this one. Any suggestions?

They don't show up at all or the subtitle is just out of synk, because often MPEG2 decoders (used for m2v files) are not set to use framerate to decode but bitrate. In this case try to adjust decoder options.

I have experienced some problems trying to read SRT files with a UNICODE character set instead of ANSI.
