I've meanwhile "googled" the internet and it seems there are some softs that could do the trick you're looking for. Maybe also give it a try.

If you have FFDshow installed there seems to be some settings wich could do the trick (but I'm too tired to try them myself).

Open the "ffdshow MPEG-4 Video decoder properties"
There is an option called "grab". In there you can select something like
grab every X frames.
If you know the framerate of your movie you can calculate X if you want to grab a frame every "something" seconds.

I hope this was of help to you.

Indeed! Excellent information RafkeP! (Nevertheless I think we should keep it on the wish-list.)
(I don't normally use ffdshow myself, so I wouldn't know, but I know for (99,9%) sure that J7N does!)

Ow now I see what's so funny about my post :D
I knew this question was asked here before and that time there was no answer.
Some time ago I accidently stumbled upon this feature in ffdshow, so this time I thought I better answer the question.

I didn't search the forum anymore : that's a task for the topic starter

So the next time someone searches the forum: he/she should definately find the answer.

Just remember folks : You saw it first with J7N !
