Media Library Video File Types

I have added (flv, m4v, mov, mp4, mpe, rm, rmm, rmvb, swf) extensions to the standard set. How do I get those file types to load into the video section of the media library. Also, the only way I can get them into a playlist is by drag & drop. Please Don't tell me in this day and age that the file extensions for video have been hard coded.
