Are you using Overlay mode 1?

Try changing the overlay mode.

For me, Overlay mode 2 or VMR-9 (renderless) worked for a .mkv package with RealVideo content.

Copy the temporary .DAT file (to have a backup).

Rename the file from .DAT to .AVI

open it.

If it doesn't work - you can open 99.9 % of all video files with VirtualDub.

You clearly got a codec problem here

Hi,

Your problem is not due to BSplayer but rather to the fact you don't have the correct video codecs installed.

The error message you get gives you the FourCC code of the required codec....

What subtitle format are you using?

Some formats produce much larger files than others.
Try the MicroDVD format - it's so small that you can't seriously want to compress that any further!

Trying to load a subtitle causes an unhandled protection error.

Tested with 2 movies encoded one with DivX 3.11 alpha,
