Feature request: Please support HW acceleration for Mali 400 GPU!

The title says it all. BS Player for Android isn't working in any HW acceleration mode in the very popular MiniX Plus media player (and clones) sold in DealeXtreme online shop and alikes.

This small media player is based on the Allwinner A10 SoC with Mali 400 GPU, running Android 4.0.2

More info about the device:

Thank you very much!

Cheers!

Hello

I have the exact same problem. Allready had an Android TV stick returned (MK808) because thought it was a hardware problem but I recently bought another (MK802IIIS) from another retailer and the problem is still there.

My tablets don't have any problems so I assume that it is a support problem as audio01 refers...

Most of my files (opened directly on BS over lan - by the way thanks a lot for that functionality, in my house it's great because my PC is on one side of the house and the TV on the other) open like this - (https://www.box.com/s/gt4gje4cgfd4z0grm85y) or just stuttering.

I don't really know if this is really the problem but since audio01 had this post here with hardware similar to mine I think our problem's the same...

Thanks

Bye

Hi again,

Your media player looks like it has a Rockchip RK3066 SoC, so the CPU cores are different, but the common denominator is the Mali 400 GPU. There were reports with non-working HW acceleration in the Rockchip's SoC:

http://forum.bsplayer.com/bsplayer-a...esnt-work.html

So it looks like BS Player doesn't have working HW acceleration for Mali 400 GPU? Is it so? Any developer/moderator can confirm this?

Cheers!

I don't think your conclusion it's based on real facts. If 2 devices using Mali 400, one in single core and one in quad core, won't work you can't jump to the conclusion that Mali 400 it's not supported by BSPlayer. In the post you mentioned we have a lot of different devices.:

Mine: RockChip 2918, Open Vivante GPU GC800
electronico and curious: TI OMAP 4430, PowerVR SGX540
alexdon: NovaThor U8500, Mali 400 single
kymh: Allwinner A10, Mali 400

4 different chips, 4 different GPUs, all not working. But:

kymh: Nvidia Tegra 2 T20, ULP GeForce
and other usng BSPlayer with no problems....working.

Not compatible with Mali400

+1000

I have 2 tablets both with Mali400 (Ainol Advances II and Aurora), and 2 Android TV dongles (rk3066+Mali400, rk3188+Mali400), ALL with same problem: Can't activate HW acceleration.

When using MX player on SW decode the video shows lags just like BSplayer, but when manually activate HW decode it plays wonderfull.

I love BSplayer features, but I think you should fix the HW compatibilities, most of Android Devices is coming with Quadcore Mali400 now.

For those with Mali400 GPUs you can use UPnPlayer + MX Player by now and wait for a fix from BSplayear team.
Pro: can watch local or LAN video without lag
Cons: this combo doesn't let you use playback control when in LAN mode

The post I mentioned isn't only about this compatibility problem (Mali 400 GPU). I mentioned it because they talk about the Rockchip RK3066 (that morpheo asked about in this thread). There're other SoCs metioned too, many of them with the same Mali GPU that don't work with hardware acceleration.

Surely there're other SoCs with other GPUs (other than Mali 400) that also are incompatible with BS.Player. But my request in this thread is specifically about Mali 400, I don't know or have information about the other SoCs/GPUs.

Thanks!

Yes! I use MX Player that works perfectly with Mali 400 GPU with HW acceleration. But I prefer some BS.Player features. One for me is determinant: the posibility to adjust an audio-sync offset.

Cheers!

If you have at least Android 4.1, then try alternative HW decoding mode.
We are working on improved support for Mali 400.

Here with a minix g4 with 4.1 decoding enable video gets behind the audio (late) without 4.1 decode i get artifacts on top of the video
