default subtitles

I can't get the subtitles I want to load by default. I'm watching a series of MKVs that each have 3 English subtitles. Each MKV has 3. I want the second of the three to always start automatically. However, no matter what I set the number to in the preferences, it always plays the first one, not the second one.
