Standalone DVD/DivX Player
 

Hello,

I'd like to participate into a project whose purpose is to design a versatile, cheap and easy-to-make-at-home standalone multimedia player.

It's main features would be:
- MPEG4, divx, xvid, Ogg, etc. video playback
- cd, mp3, vorbis, etc. audio playback
- DVD Playback
- 5.1 audio output
- Remote controlled

Optionnaly it would support (later):
- CD-Rom copy
- DVD->DivX backup
- Digital DivX VCR

This project would consist into a set of (existing&non-existing) software and documents describing the best way to achieve a good standalone player (hardware component list with cheap online shops to get it, software list, step-by-step hardware and software installation).

As I didn't find any good complete and *achieved* project on this topic I think this could be a great project.

The first steps would be to find a name for the project, to host it and to choose an OS for the standalone HTPC (Home Theater PC), then we'll have to compile a list of needed skills (linux coder, webmaster, translators, etc.)
