Malware in bsplayer [FALSE REPORT]

Hello!
I'm new in a forum and post only because of a big trouble.

I have an old version BSPlayer 137.826.

Yesterday I scaned my pc with Advanced System Optimizer and found the folder bsplayer in program files is infected with malware.

On virustotal my original file bsplayer137.826.exe appears with the result 3/43 infections!!!

Of course I tried to find a new version but now check it before install.

I was completely shocked to see that all versions have malware on VirusTotal (result 1/43, 3/43, 4/43), even the last one 2.57.1051 from BSPlayer site.
All these versions have been downloaded from trusted sites like filehippo.com (11 versions), cnet.com, softpedia.com.
Now I think if I must abandon bsplayer and install another player, even if I like this one.

Why has every version of BSPlayer bad result on virustotal??? :confuse:

This is a big problem.

False report. Try to use good antivirus program.

Maybe read this security analysis for further reassurance:
BS.Player antivirus scan - Softonic
(on that page make sure to also click on "See a complete list of antivirus engines")

Asterix 4th May 2011 06:38 PM

But after downloading the last version from Softonic the result on VirusTotal is 1/39 "malware". I'm really sorry but this is the true report:
VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

The report for my bsplayer 137.826 is 3/43:
VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

I think the site VirusTotal with 43 antivirus programes is good enough.
I'm a fan of bsplayer but so many reports with malware made me really worried:

For my bsplayer:
VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

What do you mean by "so many" ???? You must be kidding me! One report out of 43 is many ???? Only F-Prot (????) apparently reported "file is damaged". If you don't believe us, why ask? Maybe also read this: (F-Prot came out as the very last of 25 anti-virus applications; "Effectiveness: ... In our own tests, F-Prot found a handful of false positives (the software detected “malware” files that really were fine)." The Verdict about F-Prot: "Not worth it; look elsewhere").
:confuse:

I'm sorry that you missunderstood what I said.
Of course it's not about the report of the last version bsplayer, with only 1/43 from F-Prot.
By "so many" I mean I checked every version of bsplayer from FileHippo.com - Download Free Software (there are 12 versions bsplayer) and no one was clean on VirusTotal.
But I downloaded bsplayer not only from filehippo, also from other trusted sites like softpedia, cnet, etc. The result was always bad on VirusTotal (1/43, 2/43, even 4/43). Anyway, the file with only 1/43 result gave always also an error message on my desktop, with "invalid...".
That is why I said "so many reports" because I did not find a single version bsplayer with result 0/43 on VirusTotal. Why is this way?
Of course I trust the VirusTotal site and I want to believe you.
But this situation is still very strange and I needed an explanation on this forum.
I did not intend any offense! :smile

You should preferably always download thru the official website.
If any of the virusscanners which are used by VirusTotal (like e.g. F-Prot) produces a false report, it will do so every time for the same BS.Player-file, also if you downloaded that from different sources. I don't see what's strange about that. To the contrary, it would be very odd indeed if it didn't. (Also: if the same BS-Player version would produce different scan-results, I would personally suspect the sites from which I downloaded.)
I repeat what I earlier said: why even ask if you don't want to believe the answer we give you anyhow? Like I said before...

If you click to see the complete list (28 antivirus-scanners), you will see that all scanners which enjoy a good reputation are included in it (not F-Prot). If that information, together with our replies saying you that it concerns a false alarm, cannot convince you to believe us, it is clear that you simply don't want to believe us. (Maybe also read Softonic's policy)

I just tried myself for this (Softonic's) download-url: Download BS.Player and the result of VirusTotal (F-Prot included!) is 0/42 !!
(I had VirusTotal download itself the BS.Player installation-file from the Softonic server directly. Do/did you do that too, or did you download first to your PC and then upload to VirusTotal? If you used the 2nd option, maybe it is something on your own PC which has changed/damaged/infected the file before you subsequently uploaded it to VirusTotal or maybe the file is damaged during upload!) Anyhow it still always remains possible that some single virus-scanner produces a false alarm. Softonic's policy is to execute a professional human/manual check in such cases to prevent a totally reliable program from being reported as malware. Unfortunately apparently VirusTotal doesn't do this. Instead it relies on its users (surely most of them being non-experts on the subject of recognizing malware).

Many thanks for your complete explanations.
Anyway I continued to use my old BSPlayer, which I like very much but I simply was concerned by those bad results. :confuse:
Usually I download first a file to my pc and then upload it to Virus Total.
To download a file directly from the server to Virus Total seems to be a better option.
Some old versions of a software cannot be found always on the official website.
Thanks again for your help and be convinced I wanted to believe you from the beginning and I trust you.
Sorry for possible missunderstanding.
I'm a big fan of BSPlayer, which is certainly the best player!
My best wishes for you

Which one?
I found https://bestantiviruspro.org/
more than 20 antiviruses
What is better for use for good report?

My suggestion

Oh dear, malware is a huge problem!
You should install a good antivirus. Don't spare on this! I choose ScanGuard thanks to reviews on this site https://antivirus-review.com/ and it was definitely the right choice! Of course, choosing an antivirus depends on many things as OS, price and so on
But your security is the main thing, remember that.
