QUESTION ABOUT XVID AND .dat WITH BSplayer Hey I was wondering if the BSplayer can play .dat files like AVIpreview. I am dl 8 Mile (716,446kb - "8.Mile(dvdscreener)Xvid-Dvl.avi") and i am only about half way through it. But when i tried to play it in AVIPreview i just got some sound and no video. I think it is an Xvid because of the filename but i am not sure which codec i need because i havent used any Xvids before and i dont have too much experience with any type. So can someone tell me which codec i need specifically. And someone told me to uncheck overlay in the BSplayer options, yet ii dont hav BSplayer yet. What codec do i need. and i only have half of the file. Thanks. |
bsplayer isn't able to play your file "as is" because the index of the avi file needs to be reconstructed (something like that, don't ask for more ;)) AVIpreview is specifically designed to do this to play Xvid files you need... the Xvid codec  you can find Koepi's version as a binary here (only developpers use the sources, others download the binary) an alternative is to use ffdshow which can act as a replacement for some codecs, namely xvid, divx (any version), mp43 ... with either xvid codec or ffdshow installed, AVIpreview should be able to show the video |
Just to mention, I've got once a VCD and I've seen that the movie had a DAT extension, and BSPlayer could read it (with an mpeg1 codec). |
mpeg (1,2) files are not built the same way avi files are ;) [no details :P] |
