problems with sound

Bsplayer only plays video and no sound.
The problem began after uninstalling TMPGenc.
From that moment both BSplayer and Windows Media player gave no sound any more. Even downloading and installng the latest Windows Media player didn't help.
I installed Winamp, and this give sound - so I think the codecs are available. But Winamp doesn't give the possibility to show subtitles.
I have windows Xp with SP1.
To go back to a previous restoration point didn't help, nor did reinstalling Win XP.
Any help available ?
Thanks

INstall an AC3 codec or filter.

Winamp uses only it's own decoders. Does not use any of the installed codecs.
