Why do you need my email?

I notice it says that my email will not be used for any third party organizations or marketing purposes..... So why do you insist on it in order to download from your site when it is readily available on other sites such as "Download.com" without the need to give an email address?
What exactly is the point of alienating potential users with this condition to download the software from it's home site?
