DivX -> TV

How do I get the best picture on my TV, when running ex. DivX from PC.

I have a GeForceFX 5700 Ultra with a NVxx (nVidia tv-out-chip)

connected to my

Philips 32PW9509

with S-Video cable.

But i'm not satisfied with the quality on the tv

What should I set of settings on pc, and witch settings are best on tv ?

Does FFDshow have anything that can make the pic better than org. Divx/XviD-decoder ?

The picture on tv is also lagging - why?

Thanks !

As far I can see your Tv is 32", widescreen, 100 Hz ?
First you better check tv-out settings. On such a big screen you will need at least 1024x768@100Hz on TV-out to have a good quality (I am not sure if your card can do that). And sometimes removing CableTV cable from your TV can increase quality.

Yes... 32 widescreen, 100 Hz.

I’m running 1024x768, but in 50Hz i think... Can’t select 100Hz on TV-out.
Removing CableTV doesn’t help…

I personally never used 1024x768, I use 800x600. But I've tested now. I can go up to 200 Hz on 1024x768, but quality is awful. I can't imagine waching a movie like this. So, forget about my last post and try to lower resolution at 800x600, 32 bit, and probably 75 Hz will be good. Haven't seen any difference at 56 Hz compared to 200 Hz.

PS: One difference, I have an ATI card, conected S-Video to Composite.
PS2: About FFDshow, I know it has many post processing functions, but I've never used it, maybe somebody with more experience on that line will help.

Instead S-Video cable, try composite cable.

Try this then ?

I have the same, 32 Widescreen 100Hz TV. I dont use S-Video cable but that dont matter.

It dont matter what your signal on TV-out is, as long as the TV is 100Hz the picture will be 100Hz on the TV, but this will only make the picture stable compared to ordinary 50Hz tv.

However I find that the higher resolution I use on my TV the more jerky the playback becomes and the quality aint that good.

I switch to 640*480 TV mode, since most movies , TV-series etc aint encoded in more that that, and besides it's much easyer to navigate on TV tv then, becaus you can see what you are doing.

And last I dont use Dual View, I found that to make the picture on the TV slow down you know like you only update the picture with 15fps or something like that, was annoying.

I dont use TVtools either just use the Nvidia Icon and switch to TV.

I know the quality aint that good on most movies but if you go with 640*480 and watch it on the TV it look oki.

Remember the monitor is much better quality but you can allso se the (bad) quality of the movie more on a monitor, where as the TV has bigger space between the dots, that make up the picture making it smoother and you dont notice the quality that much.

Sure I might be all wrong now acording to others but that is how I understand it ?

:?

P.S. Do try other cables as well. I use a special cable for the video signal in order to get a good picture and not get too much interferance from outside sources.

a S-video cable aint shielded
