There are 3 ways:

- using TV and PC-monitor (dualview, theatermode, clonemode...)
1. Select "Draw subtitles to overlay surface" (preferences->subtitles), using Overlay mode 1 (preferences->video->video rendering).
In this case subtitles cannot be moved to "black part" (subtitle position offset CANNOT be negative), what means that subtitles are printed on movie (16:9 movies on 4:3 TV).

2. Instead Overlay mode 1, use VMR-9 renderless (preferences->video->video rendering) -> require DirectX 9.
In this case, you can move subtitles to the "black part" (subtitle position offset CAN be negative), but with less image quality (http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=5727).

- using single display mode (only TV or PC-monitor, not both)
3. In this case, which I prefer, with Overlay mode 1 and disabled "Draw subtitles to overlay surface", you can move subtitles to the "black part" with better image quality.

Correct me if I missed something.

Well, I'm experiencing the same problem.
Subtitles could only be seen in OverlayMode1, which sucks, cause I could not minimize or move other window over the bsp's window, video freezes.
I was not able to display any subs on TV in OverlayMode2(same for VMR) using BSP only.
VobSub used to work for some time, but starting today BPS doesn't load it anymore  , even though I put
Code:
AddFilter {9852A670-F845-491B-9BE6-EBD841B8A613},DirectVobSub
into bspfilters.sam.
BSP support for subs in Overlay Mode 2 would be a great thing to have.

In VMR-9 renderless mode (since BSplayer 1.01.811), BSplayer also displays subtitles (not in VMR-9 mode) - read post (http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?p=16950#16950).

If you want to use DirectVobSub (VSFilter), after downloading DirectVobSub (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm),
copy VSFilter.dll to c:\windows\system32 (for Win2k, WinXP) or c:\windows\system (for Win98, WinMe),
and register it (see code) in Command prompt or in Start->Run.
Code:
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 %windir%\system32\VSFilter.dll
If you want to unregister VSFilter:
Code:
%windir%\system32\regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\VSFilter.dll

I think that this might be the problem. Name the file bspfilters.dat, and then put this line there. Not into bspfilters.sam.
