Image controls with .mpg files

Some advice from the experts would be appreciated.

I am running on a win2k platform and have been using BS Player with the DivX 5, Xvid and AC3 codecs with no problems for /avi movie playback. However, when playing back .mpg files, the brightness , contrast, etc. controls are frozen.

Could anyone tell me what further mpg-related codecs i should install in order to allow BSP's controls to work for playback of those files?

Thanks.

Controls from VIdeo->Color controls ?
Normally for MPEG files is the only place you can adjust controls.

What im saying is that the sliders controls under the video section in the preferences work fine for FFDSHOW films (i.e AVI films) but are frozen when playing back MPEG files.

What I want to know is whether i need to install any specific MPEG codec or whether there is some setting somewhere in BS Player that will activate those slider controls so i can adjust the brightness and contrast, etc. when playing MPEG films.

Perhaps one of the BS Player engineers might be so kind as to answer my question. Ive been waiting roughly a week in hopes of a knowledgeable answer. Please help me sort this out.

Thanks again!

There is no such thing as FFDshow films. FFDshow is a filter. But, FFDshow must have support for MPEG files also. In options->preferences->video->video rendering what overlay mode do you have enabled ?
I use Elecard decoder for MPEG2 files. It can adjust brightness for MPEG2/dvd files.

I realise that FFDSHOW is a filter/codec (whatever), I merely meant that I have installed only FFDSHOW, DivX 5, Xvid, and the AC3 filter. I didnt install any of the overly excessive codec packs like NIMO.

In BS PLayer, I didnt mess with any of the options since i dont have a clue about them. whatever came checked as default is what i have going. What i see is that Overlay mode 1 is checked.

So how do I activate the elecard codec so the brightness controls will work for MPEG films?

A step by step for an admitted idiot would be helpful. thanks.

I also use overlay 1 and color controls work ok. Strange thing on your computer then. Are you sure we talk about the same thing ?
Righclick on bsplayer->video->color controls ?
Not options->preferences->video->ffdshow properties !!!
