is there any disadvantage to turning off overlay? (in)

like many im having issues with clone and overlay settings with the Nvidia 40.xx series drivers. If i turn overlay off everything works normally. Is there any disadvantage to the picture quality when not using overlay or is it just a matter of CPU vs GPU utilization. (I have a fast computer.)
