screenshot size question

after searching the forums for half an hour i finally found a post that asked what i wanted to know.

Ok so bsplayer cannot take screenshots in larger resolution than the normal resolution of the video. but when you try to enlarge the shot or zoom in with a program such as photoshop or windows picture viewer, the quality is terrible, as u would imagine with a 608x336 image.

so, why can the bs player and all video players enlarge this high quality video to fullscreen while it plays and it still be perfect quality, but to take a still of it with this program and save as jpg or whatever, it cant give a decent quality pic? am i missing something here? is there another similar program that can carry out this task? whats the point of taking a still when its such low resolution? thanks for reading ;)

In options->preferences->general->image format change to BMP. You'll end up with a larger (in MB)file, with better quality. I've enlarged a file to 2 meters width and looks fair enough.
