BUG: this AVI crashes BSplayer, WMP is ok with it

Crashes upon playing (100 kb avi, just a few frames):

http://www.nlp.sk/ddd.avi

I made this as a cut-out from a larger file via VirtualDub, seem like all cutlings from the large file inherit the incompatibility with BSplayer. VirtualDub crashes too, when I press play, otherwise it can work with the file normally.

WMP9 plays it normally. Might be something with DivX6 because VirtualDub says so.

Edit: XP SP2 with latest bsplayer 1.36, b825

Could some admin move this to the bug reports part of the forum? I didn't notice it the 1st time..

Adult movie. Playing ok here. It is XviD encoded, not DivX.

what BSplayer version you have?

Tizio 11th October 2005 11:35 PM

It plays fine here too! Also in VirtualDb, Nandub, ... !
My BSplayer version is 1.36.825!
Try updating your xvid codecs!

No problem whatsoever here either!
Indeed XviD encoded.
Playing in BSPlayer versions 1.36.825 (both Pro and non-Pro) as well as version 0.86.501, all using DivX5.2.1. as decoder (with "Support Generic Mpeg-4" selected).

shit, then my system is somehow f**d up. Several files actually do this, it's quite rare though. I will find out what it is.

It's the FUC*ING DivX Create(6.0) fighting with XviD codec, probably for control over playing of the movie. Unbelievable. Or rather, it's the DivX trying to play XviD which is a quite weird behavior, if you ask me.

If you install XviD first and then DivX Create (or DivX Play), then the short clip above will most probably make your BSplayer and Vdub go berserk upon playing. WMP is ok with it.

Glad I sorted this out. Is anyone brave enough to confirm? Upon uninstalling DivX Create/Play everything works as before.
