What is the purpose of changing resolution?

Hi to everybody in the forum.

I want to learn something. In the BSPlayer Video>Change Resolution menu, you can change the resolution of the monitor while playing video.

What is the purpose of that?

I think an answer like this; let's say we have 640x272 video. And we have a monitor at 1024x768 resolution. We play the video via BSPlayer at full screen. And if we change resolution to 640x480 (nearest to the resolution of the video file), the picture is better. Am i wrong?

Best regards, Erhan.

I don't think so. That should be real only for videos at 320, 512, 640, 800 and 1024 pixels width. To match the exact size of the screen. And what about 1920x1088 resolution ?
Or 352x288 ?
In that drop down box you can see all those resolutions that are normal for a 4:3 display (this is called aspect ratio). Few files have such a resolution and such an AR.
Maybe this is for slower computers where any lowering in resolution can improve playback rate. Don't know for good. Maybe someone will explain us exactly.

you can use it if you have a projector that only syncs at specific resolution, so you can change it during playback and go back to original after video playing is done.

Bingo! I have a 854x480 projector and that's why i am wonderin about this resolution thing.

But what does "syncs at specific resolution" mean?
Means, displays only at that resolution?

I use windows at 1280x720 resolution. While playing video files, should i swtich it to 640x480 from BSPlayer for better image quality? For sharper picture?

I think some projectors will not display anything if resolution is not correct, and otherwise there will be some downsample from high resolution to low resolution.. so it's best to just pick the right resolution, I suggest to experiment with this.

for example, my old broken laptop compaq M700 loses color red in 1024x768 to the video output, and my projector will sync in that, but there is no color red, so i choose to reduce to 800x600 and then i get a sharp enough image with color red.
