Elecard MPEG2 video decoder

I just downloaded and installed last MPEG2 video decoder from elecard. Played some videos that worked OK with my old decoder ending up with the surprise to see lots of interleaving artifacts. Files I play are downloaded from a torrent file. If anyone is interested in testing this give me a PM.

Re: Elecard MPEG2 video decoder

Are the MPEGs actually interlaced? I think there's nothing much you can do in that case. Maybe you had a deinterlace option activated in the old decoder?

Edit: Can you provide me a direct link to the decoder library?

I am not sure, as I've said, the files are dwl from the internet. It seems that they are interlaced, as when activated field interpolation in de-interlace option the file looks better interms of interlacing. But picture quality looks poorer for sure. Old decoder have by default "software deinterlace".
Tested with the old decoder with de-interlace disabled. I can see some interlacing artifacts in scene changing, but not in motion, like the new one.
Wich decoder library ?

The Elecard MPEG2 Decoder (used to be mpgdec.ax), so I don't have to download and run their probably non-transparent installer.

adicoto 24th February 2006 09:42 PM

Are you sure is mpgdec.ax ?
Just kidding :)
I asked if you want the new file or the old file ?
PM me with a mail adress or send me a contact using mail button.

I've sent an email to your hotmail address.

Try my Yahoo adress. Seems hotmail is creating some problems.

I have Elecard v2.0 installed and running O.K on good files, interlaced files look poor but I had only one file like that to test.

You can pack both files, old and new. They should be quite small. I will try to test them with my current demuxer.

If possible you can provide a small fragment (5-10 MB) from the problematic MPEG2.

You have on your mail the old decoder, I am sending the new decoder (ver 3) and a link to where the file(s) are downloaded.

You have v2.0.1811. It runs in demo mode on my system and ads its logo overlay. The decoding quality is O.K, the same that I have with my decoder.
My version is a little newer v2.0.2525. And it offers two different deinterlace options (that's however not important). I got it from K-Lite.

I have never seriously considered changing the MPEG2 decoder. You don't need to fix what's not broken. ;) I took a look on a more recent K-Lite. There was no Elecard anymore for some reason (legal perhaps). I trust this decoder I have now as it was able to decode NTSC video on my old 400 MHz Celeron where ffdshow appeared too slow.

Edit: I see the new decoder has grown in size 4 times. ;) It runs in demo mode too.

I examined the decoding quality on a non-interleaved movie with deinterlace off. Interleave-like artifacts appeared where there were none in the output of v2.0! I cannot explain why. Vertical filter deinterlace is the same as "software deinterlace" in v2.0.1811. The new version added an interesting Double Rate option, which removed interlacing of interleaved videos, but also created frame time jitter and made the video look like it was filmed at low framerate like 15 fps (while it was 25+25 fields per sec).

The version numbers of the new and old decoders cannot be compared directly. Our v2.0 are older than the new 1.0.172

adicoto 24th February 2006 10:53 PM

I have 1.0.172 as part of the MPEG2 decoder and streaming pack ver 3. And I have 3 options in deinterlacing: vertical filter, field interpolation and VMR.
I don't intend to change my old decoder, as long as it still works ok. But sometims I do test new build, to know what's new and to be able to help.

This is the "DVD Pack" I currently use.

Code:

http://rapidshare.de/files/14060589/elecard.rar.html
[442 kB]

mpeg2dmx.ax v2.0.84.30429
ac3filter.ax v1.0.1.0
mpgdec.ax v2.0.2525
pim2null.ax - not sure what it does, most likely it could be omited

The mpeg2dmx.ax is not perfect as it has problems with MPEG1. But this won't be important if you do not have many of them. At least it estimates video length better than Windows default mpg2splt.ax

Finally I got your message on Yahoo. You have some small problems with your mail server, 'cause your mail was in Bulk folder and was recieved
