Why does ''DivX'' movies need xvidcore.dll?
 

Hi guys,
I have a movie encoded with DivX exactly. Plus GSpot prooves that.

And i ONLY have Divx 6.5.1 codec to decode divx and other ''generic Mpeg4 files''. Xvid decoder is not present currently.

But i was getting ''xvidcore.dll'' not found error message when i tried to open DivX files although they're encoded with DivX, not Xvid and I'm sure.

I solved that problem by putting xvidcore.dll to system directory of Windows.

But the question is: Why does Bsplayer and Divx need ''xvidcore.dll'' when opening a Divx file?

I didn't see this issue in Windows Media Player.

Probably you install xvid and then removed it, but for some reason it left some tracks behind it, so BSplayer found it in the available codecs..and when it tries to decode your videos it doesn't find that dll (since you uninstalled xvid)

Probably you need to clean your registry (there are many tools that can clean it for you, but if you don't really know what are you doing by using them don't do it, it may lead to system crashes)

I agree with you. I was installed and uninstalled Xvid and it is not present now.

Additionaly, isn't removing from add/remove programs not enough for XVid-1.1.2?

For example, i have found some xvid decoder .ax and .dll files in system directory.

When removind a codec like Xvid, do i HAVE TO use a software like ''codec sniper'' always?...

Please look at the screenshot, as you see Xvid is not installed and registered any filters currrently, so should i do any further regisrty tweaks?

I don't know.. usually to remove a program from Application Add/Remove is enough, but sometimes error occours, or the uninstaller is not coded correctly..

If you don't have problems now I think you can leave it as it is..
