No sound until I seek forward or back. I've suddenly developed a weird problem under WinXP SP2. I have no idea what started this, but now when I click on a multimedia file (mp3, avi, mpg, mov, wmv) they'll open in BSPlayer Pro 2.12, but there's no sound...until I fast forward or backward, and then the sound works normally. If I click stop and then play, it restarts with no sound again. And I've just discovered this isn't a BSPlayer problem...I'm getting the same behavior if I open the files in Windows Media Player 11. But I'm still hoping that the experts here might have some idea what's going on. My sound card is a Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX, and I haven't recently touched any of the settings for that. Help? |
Did you, by any chance make an driver update (or a Creative based updating program) ? |
No, nothing like that. I'm considering as my next step completely uninstalling and reinstalling all the Creative drivers, but I thought I'd check in here first to see if anyone has any more specific suggestions. It seems since it's happening in both BSPlayer and WMP it isn't a player problem, and since it's affecting all media types it isn't a codec issue, so I'm assuming it's either in Windows XP or in the Creative drivers...and the latter is easier to reinstall than the former. I'm guessing some recent program or game that I installed did something unfortunate.... |
Already tried if re-registering quartz.dll makes any difference? http://bsplayer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=15157#15157  |
Thanks for the suggestion, but re-registering quartz.dll didn't help. I also went ahead and reinstalled DirectX 9c, but it didn't help. |
Just for testing purposes, go to control panel and see if you have the posibility to rollback drivers for your soundcard. |
No, it says there are no drivers to roll back to. Tomorrow I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and see what effect that has. Thanks for the replies! |

Reinstalling the drivers for my Creative Audigy2 did the trick. Thanks again for the replies. |
