Most probably you have a codec problem..
For quicktime videos try to install QuickTime Alternative ( www.free-codecs-com )

Use GSpot (or MediaInfo) to see which codec you need to play your movies

Have you also tried to download latest drivers for your card?
Anyway in your video card properties maybe you can search for a "Draw to overlay surface" option whn ouputting to TV Out channel...

Have you tried to see if the video card (GeForce FX5500) has options related to its TV Out feature (I think you can reach the GeForce video properties also...
