Default Static

I have static when playing avi or sound files off my hard drive. It happens with Real as well, but BSP is the one I want to use. The static has a repeated pattern but the pattern varies if I retry continually. Eventually, it will load without the static, but sometimes without audio.

I have a Creative SB Audigy card, I'm running a Pentium 4 with 3.5 gb memory.

I did a search on 'static' but found very little. I'm new so perhaps I'm using the wrong word(s).

If I go to YouTube, all is fine.

Creative soundcards are known for such bugs, Try to reduce hardware acceleration for audio.

I have a caveat I had forgotten to add.

The 'problem' began after I reloaded XP onto a bigger hard drive. The sound was fine before.

Caveat or no, your advice was/is, if you'll pardon me saying so, SOUND.

Tnx.

Just what does 'acceleration' do? Cache?

You may also can try first to use another set of drivers for the soundcard.

Hardware acceleration on Creative soundcards take MP3 decoding into the hardware (audio chipset does the decoding om MP3 streams instead of using a codec). Most of the AVI videos files have MP3 audio (youtube uses FLV format). Have you tested for example an MKV file (they don't have MP3 but AAC or AC3).
Hardware acceleration can be found in control panel -> sounds and audio
I can't recall exactly at this moment as I am on Windows 7, not XP.

By reloading you mean reinstalling Windows ?
The fact that the hard drive is bigger, doesn't have nothing to do.
As of the second response..I don't get what you want to say.
