Default Caps

Hi,
Ive been using BS Player for years..
mainly because I can just hit the p key and get
a capture of anything on the movie or clip.

.... but... suddenly today, I made a few caps and all Im seeing is black squares !
any idea what is wrong ?

I suggest you to try a different rendering mode
(under rightclick > Options > Preferences > Video > [Video rendering]).
(What mode is selected there now?)

I can see 4 boxes
wait for vertical blank is ticked
try not to drop frames is ticked

rendering mode is
internal renderer overlay default

then vmr mode 1 is ticked

And what other rendering modes did you meanwhile try?

none I just reported whats in there

Ive been using bs player and esp the capture
... hit the p key... for years,

why should it suddenly go caput ?

So you mean nothing whatsoever has changed on your computer in all that time?
(No new installations, OS, videocard, drivers, automatic updates ...etc?)
I for sure don't have all the specs of your PC.
(In fact you provided no info at all concerning your PC nor BS.Player-version used).
So, as earlier indicated, please just try different rendering modes.
It usually is the fasted method to get matters fixed. Really, believe me, it is!
If you have no intention to try anything suggested, don't ask for help.

P.S.
Apart from rendering mode, another setting which might be of influence is the setting of "Convert captured images in software" (YV12 and/or YUY2) under
(Rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Frame and thumbnail capture

I changed to another rendering and the caps were
a mess,
I changed back to the default and bingo... the caps
are back, better than before
thnks, I think the prob is finally solved !

I ve gone thru the things I did before .. see above...
and still Im getting the black rectangle !
