The garbled section is likely due to a toolbar you have on the top of your screen - or your taskbar. I am having the same issue with my taskbar on the left side of the screen. It is talked about some here:
http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=3523. If you take the toolbar away or move your taskbar to the bottom of the screen, that junk should go away. I hope this will be fixed in the next build. I'm not sure about that error you're getting, though...I haven't seen that one.
