Did you know that you cannot re-install the same version DirectX?
How do the distorted wallpaper look? Anyway this surely indicates a video problem (GSpot showed no problems with codecs). Did you reinstall your video driver (change it to VGA, reboot, and install the real driver, reboot again)? You can free up your videocard if you play movies only in full screen at low resolution (640*480 or 800*600 with "do not resize video in full screen").

I changed to VGA and reinstalled my video driver, still nothing. Although I can play movies on Mplayer2.exe, Winamp and Divx Players. I even properly re-registered the quartz.dll and mcdvm.ocx (I type it right?) files as
adicoto suggested. What does it indicate if other players can play the .avi files and not BSPlayer?
