You need to (re)install a mp3 codec.
Here you can download a very good mp3 codec (Lame ACM Codec):

It is the other way around.
PC's play anything, like audio cd's and mp3 cd's (cdr's and cdrw's).
But only if you have installed the needed software and codecs.
Some Audio players only play audio cd's, some also play mp3 cd's.
