No, they're not the same thing, although the result is almost the same (no adds, unlimited search results...) K-lite is a Kazaa hack, whereas Kazaa gold is an official client.
Anyway, I don't know why it keeps loading K-lite, maybe it's just the shortcut you use wihich is wrong. Or maybe you didn't install Kazaa gold (I guess you're supposed to download it from their site once you bought it). You might want to uninstall both, and then install only K-gold.
