Always "Unknown file format"

Hi,
first - I am a DivX newbie.
Most of my DivX movies can't be played with the Media Player.
But with the DivX Player 2.0 Alpha (5.02) they start, run excellently for several minutes and then crash - always at the same point.
Now I tried the BSPlayer - and get the information
"unknown file format" (DIV3) or (DIVX) or (MP43).
With movies which run on other players I get "overlay failed"
and the movie is extremely flickering.

You clearly got a codec problem here

Hi,

Your problem is not due to BSplayer but rather to the fact you don't have the correct video codecs installed.

The error message you get gives you the FourCC code of the required codec. Here's the translation:

DIV3 and DIV4 = movie requieres the DivX ;-) codec 3.11 alpha
DIVX = movie requieres codecs DivX 4.12 or 5.02
MP43 = movie requires microsoft codec MPEG4 version 3

You can get the DivX codecs and some more information here.

You can download the MP43 codec here; however be aware that the use of this codec is illegal since Microsoft prohibited it!.
That doesn't stop anybody from using it of course but I just wanted to point it out so you are warned.

Cheers, Smarties :P

Hi.

I´ve installed 3.11 alpha codec and i get the same error anyway.

And as the poster of this post told, i also can play AVI files with Playa player perfectly.

Incomplete AVI files

Hi.

Is possible that BSPlayer gives the "Unknown file format (DIVxxx) because is trying to play an incomplete file and not because it requires 3.11 alpha codec installed?

If that´s the case, BSPlayer should add a feature to detect incomplete files and let play them as some user in this forum told Playa does.

i get the same error. here's the weird thing though. when i try to play music video avis in bsplayer it doesnt work, but they play fine in everything else. IE wmp, divx playa. But my movie avis work fine in bsplayer. its weird but if i wanna watch the ones that dont work i just use a diff player.
