Audio problem (NOT codec or volume)

My BSPlayer (086.499, although 086.496 had the same problem) won't play any audio, not even just MP3 files. My volume is at a normal level. Sound works fine on all other programs. My sound card is an Avance ALS4000 (Driver version 5.10.4000.1) under Windows XP Pro.

Under Output Device in Audio Preferences it says (Default). The options in the pulldown menu are "Avance Sound, Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, DirectSound: Avance Sound". I've tried all of them but none of them work.

When a movie is playing that is XviD with MP3 audio, under Properties on the second menu I have the option to alter "Default DirectSound Device" or "MPEG Layer-3 Decoder". The MP3 decoder appears to be decoding the audio stream properly. The DirectSound properties has values for "Dur" and "Fullness" and blanks for everything else.

Any help appreciated

Chris
