AVI ceases after 21 sec of play

When playing my avi it stops after 21 seconds of beautiful video and audio play. And I know this file is healthy. So, I completely reloaded Windows 98 to start fresh. Then I got the k-lite full codec pack. Great stuff. I seem to have every codec available. So I would not think it's a codec problem. Yet it still cuts out after 21 seconds. Help, please!

You might want to try ffdshow.
This works for me.
It is not a codec, it is a filter.
This software does a lot of things improving picture quality,
but it also automatically skips bad or freezed frames in your avi.
Just install it together with you favorite codec pack.
You can download it here:

It didn't work, but thanks!

If ffdsow didn't handled the file then something is not healthy. Can you play it with mplayer ?

I have the same problem. Some videos stop only after a few seconds, some are totally black. No video and no audio is played, but the time runs. It's the same with the DivX-player. Windows media player only plays the "black" videos, with the others it doesn't work. Say's unknown file format or something like that. I tried ffdshow - didn't work. Somewhere I read that I should disable DivX at ffdshow - didn't work either. I'm using Windows XP professional and GeForce4.
Can anybody help me?! I have been trying for a whole week to make it work, but it still doesn't.
PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

When you have a black screen usually you don't have the codec to play the video. No audio, the same.

I know the post from the DivX forum and I did all that is required, but it still doesn't work.

Try GSpot or Avicodec to find out if you've got the proper codecs (or filters) installed.
(See the DivX forum post for further info how to use GSpot.)
Please see (item 2 of) Help to Help hereunder.

I tried Gspot before and it told me that with the 'black' files everything must be fine. The video path is (S) --> AVI Splitter --> DivX Decoder Filter --> (R) furthermore it says: 'DirectShow claims to be able to play the file'
With the other files where only the first few seconds are played rendering fails. Somewhere above it says:
'An invalid chunk has been encountered in the list containing the A/V frame data. Though not as serious as a corrupt header, it may still be serious enough to prevent the file from rendering correctly.

Details: While processing chunk /RIFF:AVI /LIST:movi, found bad length value 717858804 at file offset 0x0004b02e'

At the FAQs from DivX I read that my graphiccard may cause problems and they tell me that I should enable overlay at the display properties but I don't know where I should do that since there is no such button where they describe there should be...

I tried everxthing which I thought might help. I read the DivX FAQs and the forum over and over again but nothing would solve the problem...
