subtitle problem

(sorry for the bad english)
I have a kind of a problem, I rip subtitles with subrip, when i make a 2cd subtitle, I divide the file (*.srt) with that option in subrip, but the line count of the file keeps the sequence of the first one,
(file 1 *.srt)
1
00:01:18,573 --> 00:01:23,363
Devia ter adivinhado que estava aqui,
Professora McGonagall.
........
........
721
01:18:24,777 --> 01:18:27,689
Fogo! Est??s a arder!

(file 2 *.srt)
722
00:00:13,817 --> 00:00:15,887
Vai, vai, vai, vai!

....bsplayer doesn't open the second subtitle file, the only way i can make it work is changing all of the line count numbers so they start in 1..2..3

1
00:00:13,817 --> 00:00:15,887
Vai, vai, vai, vai!

is this a subrip problem, a bsplayer problem or is it me that is doing something wrong?

Hope someone understands what i'm talking about.
