BSPlayer is very slow to launch
 

Hi all,

I'm using BSPlayer 0.86 Build 499 , 26 Jun 2003 on Windows 98 SE.

Its a very good player, specially for the sound quality, but ...

I have a problem : when I click on a AVI file (DivX about 700 Mb) to show it in BSPLayer, it take 20-30 seconds for BSPLayer to be launched and more than 1 minute for the movie to start. During all the time, the PC is frozen ...

Is it "normal" ?

If no, is it a way to speed up BSPlayer ?

By the way: the latest version is 86 build 501.
(Install 500 http://www.bsplayer.org/dlfile.php?s...lay086.500.exe
and subsequently place the two substituting files and 1 additional file of build 501 http://www.bsplayer.org/dlfile.php?fname=bsplay.zip in its installation directory).

I tried with release 0.86 Build 501 : same problem ...

It seems that BSPlayer try to connect to Internet (I have an ADSL connection and my firewall display an alert message for the connection of BSPlayer).

Is it the reason for the slowness ?

Is it a way to prevent BSPlayer to connect to Internet ?

BSPlayer is not trying to connect to the Internet.
Didn't you have a look at the post to which I referred you http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?p=6405#6405?
(Or otherwise have a look at http://www.bsplayer.org/html/faq.html
So please select "Don't use WinLIRC" in the "General" tab of "Options"/"Preferences".

Thanks for your help : I have read iwith attention the posts you indicated and I verified that my configuration parameters are in accordance with your recommendations.

BUT I confirm that when I open a movie (whatever is the movie), BSPlayer try to connect twice to crl.microsoft.com:80

If I refuse the connection, BSPLayer hangs up and I must use Ctr-Alt-Del to kill it.

Perhaps, it is not directly BSPlayer but how can I disable this feature (other players as DivxPlayer 2.1 doesn't connect to this address) ?

You can easily understand that it is not acceptable to wait for 2 minutes with the PC partially frozen before watching a movie ...

I wonder if it isn't a matter of a missing codec, which your PC is trying to pick up from the internet.
Can you play the same movie-file in another player? (Try e.g. Windows Media Player) and what is the result?
(If WMP causes the same action, I would suggest to allow WMP to connect to the internet so that the (upgrade of the) codec can be downloaded and installed (if it can be found at MS); once the codec is downloaded and installed, it is - of course - not only available to WMP, but (i.a.) also to BSPlayer).
If that doesn't do the trick, you'll first have to find out what codec is used by the movie in question. Applications like GSpot or AviCodec can assist you at that:

Another possibility is that you perhaps need to do a "Windows Update".
(If you uncheck "Auto play" in "General"-tab of "Preferences" and then load (from BSPlayer's control panel) a moviefile without a subtitlefile, what happens if you press "Play"-button?)
(You'll have to temporarily rename subtitlefile first if it has the same name as the videofile and/or select "Don't show subtitles" in the Subtitle-section of "Preferences")

It's very nice of you to spend time with problems of other people ... :wink:

I followed your instructions :

1) I played the same movie file with 2 other players (Windows Media Player 9 and DivX Player 2.1) : no access to Internet is performed by these players and the movie is played instantaneously. :)

2) I used GSpot to check the codecs used by te movie : for video I have 2 codecs available on my PC and for sound it is PCM so no codec is necessary. :)

3) I unchecked "Auto play" in "General"-tab of "Preferences" and then load from BSPlayer's control panel the file (which doesn't have subtitles) : same result (a long wait of about 1 minute + 2 access to Internet). This appears before playing the movie : just during loading. :(

4) The Internet access is not always to the same address : some times it is to crl.microsoft.com but other times to 207.46.242.247 or 207.46.243.152. I tried to connect to these IP : "access denied" was the answer. :(

5) I thought it may be an spyware or an adware (external to BSPlayer, perhaps in a codec) and I used SpyBot : nothing wrong has been detected. :)

Well, on Win98se the BSplayer started also very long for me, but about 10sec or so. Never more, and no hanged machine :roll:

Anyway, what's the codec the the movie? Or did this happen with every codecs you using? Then what codecs you have installed?

I using FFDshow for almost everything on earth, except very problematic WM9 codec, what does access to the internet :evil:
(i own the two up to date made DVDs with WM9 film version - Standing into the Shadows of Motown and Terminator2)

actually all of these are the same site (both IPs you mentionned are associated to crl.microsoft.com)

found this:
(CRL means Certificate Revocation List)

could be that the decoder tries to check whether you have the right to play the video, like trodas suggested WM9 does
