Error Message: Unable to open mpeg movie file

Not sure if this has been posted before - as you can see I'm a newbie and logged on to post this error report, as the prog. asked me to..

Anyway here it is. Was attempting to open and play a mpeg movie file about 10mb in size which had been downloaded via Shareaza. I initially attempted to open the file with Windows Media Player (v6.4.09.1128) but, having attempted to 'download a codec', it was 'unable to find an appropriate decompressor' - quel surprise

To my surprise - think this is the first time it's thrown an error message at me - BSPlayer was also unable to open the file and displayed the following error message:-

By the way, the movie was not corrupted - it played perfectly in Videolan media player v0.7.2

Environment:
OS - Win2k Pro SP4
MB - IWill KK266R
Processor - AMD Athlon 1.0 Ghz @ 1.4
Graphics - Hercules 3D Prophet III Ti500

If you need any more info, please post and I'll check back when I can and see if I can help any further.

Hope this helps the author(s) continue to develop what is an elegant piece of software that does exactly what it says on the tin - well, mostly :)

It appears to me you need an mpeg-codec. Have a look at adicoto's list of codecs
