DirectVobSub (VSFilter.dll) won't load with Bsplayer

using build 811, all other players work with vsf just fine. I don't mind using bsplayer's native sub support, only it won't expand the picture to 4:3 like vsf does, which allows me to place the subs in the black part below the actul picture.

so what to I do?

Don't know if it's what you are looking for:
when you play movie with subtitles press shift+down or shift+up to move subs down or up (you can also check subtitles right click menu). If there is black border below or above movie, when playing full screen, subtitles will be displayed there. Also if you set subtitles position offset to some big value (e.g. -200), then they will just be displayed as low on the screen as it is possible.

I'll try to explain: I used to have VSFilter load automatically when bsplayer played a file that had matching subtitles, and it worked fine. then it just stopped and i don't know why. I use overlay to watch the video on my TV, and moving the subtitles to the black area does not work in overlay (i'm using overlay 1 but overlay 2 doesn't work either - and it also won't show the OSD).

i'm now using build 1.02.812 and it still won't load. :?

Take a look at this thread:

tried it before, didn't work :?

any other suggestions?

It didn't work for me either, but bst says it is going to be fixed in the next release, so let's wait!

mmmmmm 18th September 2004 11:20 AM

let's hope :\

well let's hope it does get fixed in the next build.

to bst: what would really be great is if bsplayer could actually expand to 3:4 on itself and allow moving the subs to the black area without needing VSFilter at all.

(but if that's too much for you guys, at least make it so we can use the filter at least...)

Instead of overlay mode, use VMR-9 renderless mode (which allow moving the subs to the black area).

doesn't solve my prob.

that way my TV doesn't show the picture at full screen (not to mention the subs' quality is very poor and had a very large black bg that clouds the picture).

i can't use anything but overlay 1 to get the picture and subs the way i want it, so i'll just wait for the next build where vsfilter compatability will be fixed.

What videocard do you have ? It's drivers are up to date ?

adicoto 19th September 2004 05:38 PM

No relation with VSFilter compatibility, but here on XinXP SP1, powered by ATI videocard using wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-01-040421a-015419c, on overlay mode 1, YV12 disabled, I can move subtitles using shift+down arrow on the black border under the movie with no problem.
I use the extended desktop option, move the video window on the extended desktop, press F to go to full screen (the black borders are added) and that's it. No need for vsfilter.

Geofore 440MB 128MB TV OUT.

It worked just fine before installing 811 or so. my settings are that my 2nd screen TV automatically shows any video in fullscreen, i don't have to change the player program to full screen and it has not effect on the actual image on my TV if i do.

adicoto 19th September 2004 07:59 PM

So you use the clone mode for the second monitor (TV) ?
I am using build 812.

mmmmmm 20th September 2004 03:32 PM

Yes i think so... and using build 812 as well

Have you tried the lines that solved my problem?!

Code:

[BSPlayer filter def file]
AddFilter {9852A670-F845-491B-9BE6-EBD841B8A613},DirectVobSub

that didn't work, but after i saw bsplayer loaded vsf correctly with an OGM file i removed all the filters i had, rebooted, and installed the klite pack. now it's working fine. i didn't think it was a codec problem cause every other player managed to play everthing just fine, but i guess there might have been some clash between ffdshow and stuff.

anyway, got it to work as i want now, except it forces the picture into 16:9 mode every time and i have to manually resize it back to the normal ratio.

thanks to everyone who tried to help.
