Dat files played by Vlc but not by BSPlayer

Please help me solve this problem.

[I'm new of this forum (although I've been using Bsp for a while now, and loving it) and I've been looking in the past threads for possible solutions already posted but no luck. Sorry if I missed it. A link to another post would be great in that case.]

I have a movie in avseq01.dat file format that afaik is a video cd kind.
I'm able to play it with Vlc and powerdvd but not with BsP.
(gspot details of the movie follow)

The reason why I want to watch it with bsp is because its width is shorter than it should be and therefore the image appear "squeezed".
I wasn't able to correct the problem with the other 2 players but I believe that selecting the 16:9 option in BsP will do the trick.
When I try to open it in bsp the movie freezes right at the beginning (probably the first frame). Same thing happens with Divxplayer and WindowsMediaPlayer.
I'm thinking that maybe (just guessing) I'm missing a specific codec that Powerdvd and vlc have but the other players dont use by default.
Any Idea would be welcome. Tnx in advance, Lloyd

Ps: if easier, it could be quite good even to know how to change width of the movie as to be able to watch it with one of the other players. I tried to resize the window in powerdvd by dragging the edges but the image get squeezed again when I go full screen.

It will be good to install an alternate MPEG (MPEG2) decoder such as elecard, bitctrl

Thankyou for your reply.
Is this the one you suggest to install?

Nothing better to be found around than a trial (limited time) or full (not free) version?

tnx, Lloyd

Finally I downloaded the evaluation version of the elecard mpeg2 (why do I need a mpeg2 codec when the movie is supposed to be an mpeg1 is beyond me but...) and it worked. I was also able to switch to 16:9 in bsplayer solving the annoying tall and skinny effect problem.

Thankyou very much for your help, adicoto.

Lloyd
