Certain files won't play
 

For seemingly random video files, all avi/divx, certain ones cause the player to crash and close. I can't find anything that the failed movie files have in common. No other effects have been observed that have occurred to the computer or any other files. I'm running Windows XP with a 1.7 GHz P4 and Radeon 8500, latest directx and video drivers.
I've tried installing a previous version of bsplayer and I get the same type of error but referring to the bsplay.exe instead of wtwmplug.ax. Any and all help would be appreciated as I find BSPlayer to be superior to all other players I've tried except for this bug.

I suppose you didn't encode the movies yourself, so sources remain unknown.
If it were so, situation would be different.
As it happens with different versions of bsplayer I assume that some of your d/l ed movies are corrupt, and not your bsplayer or system install.
AFAIK no-one reported pb the like you have.

Like bluedan, I suspect there is something wrong with your downloaded movies, not with BSPlayer.

There are several things that can be wrong so you have to work the problem:

1. Is DirectX installed correctly?
To check this, type "dxdiag" in the windows run box and make sure there aren't any problems there.
If you do find problems, simply reinstall DirectX 8.1

2. Is the codec installed correctly?
Try a DivX movie that you *know* works, using windows media player.
Install DivX 5.02 if you haven't already.

3. What's wrong with your movies?
Now this will get a little more complicated.
Basically, we want to find out if your files are broken, and if they are, find if they can still be fixed.

Try to run the movies with windows media player. Does it work?

If yes, it should work with BSPlayer too EXCEPT if you can run the movie but can't seem to "jump" in the middle of it, the movie might be in fact an ASF file which isn't supported by BSPlayer... in this case, change the extension to .ASF and watch it using WMP. :(
Else, try a BSPlayer debug version and if it fails, send the log to Bst.

If no, your movie is corrupted.

There are 2 possibilities that I know of to fix broken movies.
* download Divfix and try to fix the file. If it works, great!

* download VirtualDub and get ready to do some videoediting! I found that VirtualDub can open almost ANY video file if you tweak the "advanced" options. Once you've opened it, you'll have to reincode the movie - there are many excellent tutorials about VirtualDub on the internet.
Try this guide for a start.

If you can't fix it with VirtualDub, the only hope you have left is to use a commercial videoediting program like Ulead Video Studio 6 which is relatively expensive, slow and tricky to use... or you can simply retry the download! :lol:

I have researched my problem a bit more in the old message board and found that "web drivers" from WildTangent were causing the problem, now I ocasionally have the same type of problem but relating to the player executable. This occurs once every 30 files or so. And all of my DivX/AVI/MPEG files are non-corrupt, they run successfully with ATI File Player as well as WMP. DirectX 8.1 shows everything working fine and I've already installed the 5.02 codec before experiencing the errors.

That´s false... i have AVIs that i can not play in WMPlayer but they are perfectly watched in Playa.

i get the same error. here's the weird thing though. when i try to play music video avis in bsplayer it doesnt work, but they play fine in everything else. IE wmp, divx playa. But my movie avis work fine in bsplayer. its weird but if i wanna watch the ones that dont work i just use a diff player. then i also have movies that wont play in WMP but play fine in the playa and bsplayer
