No audio

On some movies I cannot get audio. Not even after I select directsound or waveout as the default audio source and ac3 as the default filter.
Audio works perfectly with video lan, but i dont like that player as much as bsplayer. can someone help?

Please, follow BSPeter's indications at point (3) of his post "READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING". Then write here your results

it says my audio codec was mpeg layer 3.. i am not sure what part of the faq applies to me.
I also tried registered the quartz.dll.

Sometimes audio with 48.000 Hz sampling rate is recognized as MP3 not as AC3. MPEG1 Layer 3(MP3) decoder that is built-in in windows can't decode 48.000 Hz. To do that you'll need another decoder. Install DivX 3.11 for example (and when prompted about l3codeca.acm say YES) or moonlight odio dekoda.

Would you happen to know where I can get that version of div x? I think the current version is 5 + so it wont be on the div x homepage.
I just also noticed that on certain movies where it does actually play audio, the volume seems to increase / decrease, during voice. Is this related to my no audio problem on other video files?

Current version for DivX is 6.1 (Windows 2K/XP only)

You can download DivX 3.11 ( known as "DivX ; -)" ) from here

Digital Digest FAQ[/url]]The original DivX 3.xx codec is based on Microsoft's MPEG-4 V3 codec (ASF was based on MPEG-4 V2). The reason why the codec was "hacked" and re-distributed is because Microsoft's codec did not allow one to encode to AVI (they only wanted people to encode to ASF/WMV), which is far from being convenient. The DivX 3.xx codec also includes hacked versions of a MP3 codec and a WMA codec. The AnglePotion, MPEG-4 and SMR codecs are all in the same boat. There is also a VKI (Scene Detect) patch that will insert keyframes at scene changes for you automatically, which will improve picture quality.

As you can see the 3.11 version has an hacked version of MP3 codec, so I think that adicoto suggested you to download this version for such a motive

You can download Odio Dekoda from here or here

Bye

Let's say that the MP3 codec is not hacked, it's just "all features enabled".

Probably you use FFDshow to decode audio and is installed with normalization option or AC3Filter do the same thing.
And by the way, DivX is at 6.13 or something like this.
